When you think of a bright summer day, you think of brightness, of the glaring beauty of the sun. Pink City by Sarika’s summer collection, Surajmukhi is inspired by just that. Well, the sun and the flower that bows to it, sunflowers. Combining the joys of summer with flora and feminity, Surajmukhi looks at Indian summer wardrobes from a delicate lens.
Sunflowers embroidered with zardozi, resham and pearls is the running motif of the collection, combined with bandhani dots hand crafted to form the very flower on capes, sarees, kurtas, dupattas and contemporary pret wear. Surajmukhi looks at the vibrant colours of the sunflowers and those that summer brings with it – yellow, pink, bright purple, orange and more, embodying warmth, joy and a little bit of sparkle.
An edit of light, summery Indian contemporary wear, Surajmukhi, like its preceding collections, Jodha and Gulabi Kone, is also inspired by the Maharanis of Jaipur. It’s definitely not one bit traditional, in terms of silhouettes and cuts, but looks at the modern world with a traditional gaze. A gaze that looks through the whispers of history, and the stories of modernisation.
