Suramya

An array of colours, Pink City’s latest collection Suramya is a storytelling of sorts, which oozes elegance through its ranging silhouettes of ease. Kolkata, July 2022: Pink City by Sarika’s latest collection, Suramya, literally translates to “beautiful”. Inspired by the history of the City of Joy, which is Sarika’s home, Suramya is a reflection of the Victorian Gardens that Kolkata boasts of. Sarika plays around with easy, flowing, yet sophisticated fabrics like silk chanderi and organza in bright colours, brought to life by hand embroidery of sorts - coin, mirror, sequins, thread and pearl. Depicting the gardens of Victoria Memorial, this collection boasts of intricate craftsmanship in the form on delicate embroidery representing the flora of the gardens. Obviously, this has been combined with Pink City’s signature peacock motif embroidery in golden zari. Suramya consists of a range of silhouettes - kurtas, draped sarees, shararas, capes - most of them layered in bandhani or leheriya - art forms Pink City is proud of promoting through the years. “There’s something for everyone in this collection. I have given this collection too much thought and time because I wanted to create something that bridesmaids can be proud of wearing at destination weddings, without the fuss of having to carry heavy outfits. Each outfit is lightweight and radiant in its own way and my vision for Suramya is that it will change the way people look at Indian clothes at weddings. The Pink City Woman has to feel confident without the weight of her skirt, and that’s the kind of fashion I want to promote through Suramya, and the brand,” says Sarika.
